A customer from pharmaceutical industry encountered difficulties in transporting dichloromethane. Previously, they used a stainless steel diaphragm pump of a famous brand, but they had never been able to transport it successfully. Because dichloromethane will spontaneously ignite once the temperature reaches 45 degrees Celsius during operation, the customer can only stop working every time when it reaches 38 degrees.
After communicating with us about this situation, we recommended to use of PTFE pumps. First of all, dichloromethane will corrode stainless steel. Even if the temperature problem is solved, dichloromethane will corrode stainless steel during transportation using a stainless steel pump, causing changes in the properties of the fluids. Second, using a PTFE pump will not have concerns about temperature rise during operation, because compared to metal, PTFE will not accumulate heat.
